GAS-LIQUID FLOW
ESP gas handling
ESP gas handling for geothermal and oilfield wells. Gas separators, dispersants and combined modules are selected where gas conditions and pump duty require them.
GEOTHERMAL GAS HANDLING
Gas handling where the well requires it.
Gas separation and dispersion can be applied to geothermal ESP systems. Their use depends on the gas conditions and the operating duty of the selected pump.
Assess the need
The need for gas-handling equipment is assessed for each project using intake gas content, fluid properties and the selected pump duty. Contact REPN-FZCO for an application-specific review.
Select the configuration
Where gas handling is required, assess the module together with intake gas content, fluid properties, temperature and the complete ESP assembly.
Contact REPN-FZCO for geothermal configuration options and confirmed operating limits. The oilfield module ratings are specific to the oilfield reference models.
OILFIELD GAS HANDLING
Manage free gas at the pump inlet.
Gas separation
Hydrocyclone modules separate free gas from the liquid stream before it enters the pump.
Gas dispersion
Dispersing stages form a more homogeneous gas-liquid mixture for the pumping section.
Combined modules
Separator–dispersant units combine both functions within one assembly.
| Parameter | Catalogue value |
|---|---|
| Maximum fluid density | 1,400 kg/m³ |
| Maximum single-phase kinematic viscosity | 1 mm²/s |
| Production-water pH | 5.0–8.5; corrosion-resistant configuration 3.0–9.0 |
| Maximum suspended solids | 1 g/L |
| Maximum pumped-fluid temperature | 170 °C |
The applicable gas-handling model is selected against inlet gas content, fluid properties and the complete ESP configuration.
OILFIELD / TECHNICAL MODELS
Separation and dispersion.
In a hydrocyclone, gas is directed toward the vortex centre for discharge, while liquid moves along the housing sleeve toward the pump.
| Module | Intake gas content | Separation ratio |
|---|---|---|
| Hydrocyclone gas separator | ≤ 70% | ≤ 87% |
| Hydrocyclone separator–dispersant | ≤ 75% | ≤ 87% |
| Hydrocyclone with upgraded dispersing unit | ≤ 80% | ≤ 87% |
| Hydrocyclone with double upgraded dispersing unit and dynamic gas outlet | ≤ 90% | ≤ 90% |
Wear and corrosion options
Selected configurations use hard-alloy radial bearings, Ni-Cr stainless-steel protective sleeves, stainless end parts and shafts, and Ni-resist flow components.
Load transfer
Gas-stabilizing modules have no axial support of their own; the load is transferred to the seal-section thrust bearing.
